Your Hips Don't Lie

Let them be an expression of your wild heart!

In yogic and other traditions, our hips are thought to hold pent up emotion and heavier energy that can bog us down. This can manifest in physical ways (tension, limited range of motion, pain) and energetic-emotional ways (lack of energy, stunted creativity, trapped emotion).

There are myriad ways to unlock your hips.

Working with movement in the hips is something I love to do! I like to invite a deeper connection with this area of your body, turn you toward sensing what’s there already, and then asking your hips how they would like to move. We move from deep within, following breath and spirit as our guides.

In theatre, we might call this “working from the inside out”. Feeling and tapping into what is already there inside us, trusting what we already know to be true, and then inviting expression from that place. There is no particular way to move, but rather the way your body moves.

Unlocking the organic expression of our hips allows vital, creative energy to flow through us more freely.

How would your hips like to move if they have the freedom to move any which way they like?

Try putting on a song that suits your mood today and start by just asking your hips to move as an expression of your heart and see what movement flows out of you. See if you can let go of judging what comes out - let it be messy, awkward, silly, fast, slow - trust your hips to take you deeper into yourself. When the song is over, be sure to thank yourself for practicing and make mental note of what feels different in you now. Trust that whatever unfolded was exactly right.

Send me a message and let me know how it goes.
