A Practice for Opening Your Heart and Moving Toward Pleasure
A Movement Practice | Heart Opening + Sacral Circles
Slow, intentional sacral circles can connect us to powerful, pleasurable energy, especially when we move with a more open heart…
Following your natural breathing rhythm, begin by moving back and forth between softening your heart center toward the earth and feeling the solidity of your backbone (this is not a full Cat pose, see video). Once you feel a sense of both, you can let your heart move you into sacral circles by beginning to circle gently through your pelvic bowl. For a full-body swirl, combine the sacral circles with a rolling Cat/Cow throughout your spine and torso. Intuitively change the direction of your swirling as many times as feels good and fully linger in any moment. When you feel complete, find breath-filled stillness and find a way to close your practice.
Choose a song that feels yummy and grounding for your current mood. Then, let your breath and the swirling energy of your movement bring more of your awareness into your body and senses.
A variety of songs I’ve chosen for this practice…
Cleanse by Boatkeeper
Through Your Soul by Sworr.
Wild Sweet by Starling Arrow and Ayla Nereo
Too Deep by RITUAL, Delilah
ocean eyes by Billie Eilish
Storm Comin’ by The Wailin’ Jennys
Goddess by Banks
Breathe Me by Sia
This ritual of communing with our heart, pelvis, and the space between them has the potential to connect us to the present moment, allow more sensation and emotional flow, and fuel our creativity.
